Abetrack “Depth of hypnosis,” when used to refer to overt responsiveness to suggestions, has definite meaning for clinical hypnosis whenever therapeutic results depend primarily upon the direct effects of specific suggestions. There is evidence, however, that dimensions other than suggestibility probably determine hypnotic behavior, hence the effectiveness of - hypnotherapeutic intervention. In addition the hypnotist's ability to recognize, accept, and utilize what the patient offers, and more generally the therapist's ability to use hypnosis to establish a favorable and meaningful interpersonal relationship are in the long run perhaps the major determinants of hypnotherapeutic success.
