Vaginal Delivery After Cesarean Section

Abstract
A 10-year review of 276 patients who had 423 pregnancies after a lower segment transverse primary cesarean section is presented. Of these, 42.5% underwent elective repeat section and 57.5% were allowed a trial of labor. Subsequently, 70.4% of the latter delivered vaginally, for an over-all 40.4% vaginal delivery rate after cesarean section. No scar ruptures and no maternal mortalities occurred. The purpose of this review was to determine whether there is a place for vaginal delivery after cesarean section. While it has been shown that vaginal delivery after cesarean section is a safe procedure, these patients should be selected carefully.
