Abstract
The Bi Kα lines observed in 460-MeV (lab) Xe + Bi encounters are significantly Doppler broadened. The x-ray line shapes can be calculated using theoretical models for the impact-parameter dependence P(b) of the probability of making 1sσ vacancies in Xe + Bi collisions. The measured line shapes are in good agreement with those derived from values of P(b) calculated by Betz et al.
