Abstract
The composition of a sample of mycelium of Penicillium griseofulvuin was studied with particular reference to the high molecular wt. components. Fats and compounds soluble in organic solvents amount to about 35%. Protein (about 12%) was estimated by a detn. of alpha-amino acid N on various fractions hydrolyzed with HC1. Carbohydrate (about 50%) occurs for the most part as poly-hexose. Glucose is the predominant sugar residue, but galactose and probably mannose are also present in the polysaccharide. The presence of chitin (about 5.5%) was confirmed, but it was only isolated associated with carbohydrate. There is no indication of the presence of lignin. Keywords
