Abstract
Traditionally, IOL implantation in eyes with uveitis has not been recommended. In the present study 31 eyes with uveitis which underwent extracapsular cataract extraction or phacoemulsification with IOL implantation, are compared to a reference group consisting of 930 eyes. There was increased postoperative inflammation in 29% in the uveitis group, compared to 5.9% in the reference group. The rate of per- and postoperative complications was slightly elevated in the group with uveitis. Corrected visual acuity of 5/8.5 or better was achieved in 58.1%. The major obstacle to good visual acuity postoperatively, was macular pathology. Keywords
