Terrapin hearts were mounted in muscle chambers, through one of which was passed N, through the other O. The vagus was stimulated to the point of complete inhibition, and the lactic acid content estimated. In control experiments, hearts were similarly treated without vagal stimulation and were found to have the same lactic acid content as the inhibited ones.
