A NOTE UPON LYMPH FORMATION IN THE DOG'S KIDNEY AND THE EFFECT OF CERTAIN DIURETICS UPON IT

Abstract

In 6 experiments on dogs with sulphate diuresis the results showed loss of renal fluid unaccounted for by the urine. In 9 experiments on dogs measurement of urine, blood and lymph flow from the left kidney (the other abdominal viscera having been removed or tied off) showed that diuretics uniformly increased lymph flow along with increase in urine and blood flow. Additional injection experiments with diffusible dye confirmed the conclusion that fluid can leave the blood within the kidney to enter lymphatics as well as ureter, and that escape through both channels is augmented by the same agents, i.e., by diuretics.
