Abstract
In the anesthetized dog, an acute arteriovenous fistula may lower the renal plasma flow by inducing renal vasoconstriction, reduce the glomerular filtration rate and decrease the amount of sodium, water, and chloride excreted. The mechanism of these effects as well as the possible role of the kidneys in the adaptation of the organism to the presence of an arteriovenous fistula is discussed.Keywords
