Abstract
Despite evidence that cortisone suppresses antibody formation to non-replicating antigens, published studies have not demonstrated antibody suppression during actual infection. In the present study injection of mice with cortisone inhibited the development of neutralizing and hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies following infection with avirulent influenza A virus. Cortisone also reduced acquired immunity to a virulent strain of virus. The inhibitory influence of cortisone on antibody formation was dependent on protracted dosage.
