Abstract

An approximate formula for the continuous radiative absorption cross-sections of the lighter neutral atoms and positive and negative ions is derived. It is used to discuss the general results to be anticipated and is applied specifically to Be , C⁺ , O⁺ , F⁺ , Ne⁺ and Na⁺ .
