Near-edge x-ray-absorption fine-structure observations of ordering and metalliclike behavior in organic conducting polymers grafted on a Pt surface

Abstract
Using surface near-edge x-ray-absorption spectroscopy, we have observed a remarkable ordering of doped and undoped poly(3-methylthiophene) thin films several layers thick electrochemically deposited on a platinum surface. We have also been able to record changes in the unoccupied antibonding π* band between the doped and the undoped states which confirms the narrowing of the band gap and the appearance of a metalliclike behavior in this organic conducting polymer.
