Isolation of an Unidentified Hemagglutinating Virus from the Respiratory Tract of Turkeys

Abstract
A hitherto unrecorded virus, tentatively named Wilmot virus, has appeared in Ontario turkey Hocks. It was isolated on only one occasion from the tracheas of birds from a flock showing signs cf respiratory infection and with a severe concomitant production problem. There was serological evidence for its presence in 4 other flocks. Wilmot virus is lethal for chicken embryos and hemagglutinates chicken red blood cells. It is transmissible experimentally to chickens and spreads by contact. Its relationship to the infleunza A group of viruses is mentioned, and its possible association with impaired reproduction in turkeys is discussed..
