TREATMENT OF A PATIENT WITH LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS AND PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS WITH ACTH, STREPTOMYCIN AND PARA-AMINOSALICYLIC ACID

Abstract
A patient with lupus erythematosus with active far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis was treated with ACTH, streptomycin and PAS for 7 months and with streptomycin and PAS thereafter. The lupus erythematosus went into a remission which has persisted more than 2 years beyond ACTH therapy. The tuberculosis underwent unusually rapid regression and inactivation. ACTH and cortisone may be used more widely in the presence of tuberculosis and possibly may be found to have some use as adjunctive treatment of certain forms of tuberculosis such as tuberculous meningitis.
