Plasma Elastolytic Enzyme Activity in Pancreatic Disease

Abstract
Forty-eight patients were studied for plasma elastase activity by the fluorometric method with use of elastin-dimethylamino naphtalene sulfonic acid substrate. Plasma elastase levels in patients with chronic pancreatitis and convalescing chronic hospital patients showed no significant difference from those of normal ambulatory adults. Patients with acute pancreatitis demonstrated a decreased plasma elastase level.
