Abstract
The results of an experimental investigation on washout and rainout of SO2 by raindrops and fog-droplets of given size-distribution are presented. The laboratory-studies were supplemented by model calculations on the sulfate-concentration in rainwater caused by washout and rainout of SO2 and sulfate-aerosols. It is shown under which circumstances the rainout resp. the washout mechanism becomes predominant for the chemical composition of rainwater on the ground.
