Abstract
We consider the equation of state of a dilute one-dimensional quantum degenerate gas at moderately high temperatures, and calculate the second virial coefficient assuming a Lennard-Jones function for the pair potential. Comparison with similar results for two- and three-dimensional gases reveals definite trends with changes in dimensionality. The Slater sum treatment of the quantum defects is found to be applicable over a narrower range of reduced temperatures as the dimensionality decreases. Keywords
