STUDY OF THE TENDENCY TO EDEMA FORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH INCOMPETENCE OF THE VALVES OF THE COMMUNICATING VEINS OF THE LEG. OXYGEN TENSION OF THE BLOOD CONTAINED IN VARICOSE VEINS

Abstract
By quantitative measurement edema was found to develop a little more readily in the legs of patients with varicosities than in normal individuals. This tendency was greatly increased when the valves of the communicating veins were incompetent. Studies of the saphenous blood oxygen offered no explanation of this. Possible explanations are discussed.
