Ventilation and haemodynamics in heart disease.

Abstract
The relation between hemo-dynamic changes and ventilation during cardiac catheterization has been studied in several groups of patients with heart disease at rest and on exercise. A good correlation between pulmonary venous hypertension and ventilation had been confirmed in those cases where the former was present, such as in mitral and aortic valve disease. Neither pulmonary hypertension per se nor a lowered cardiac output could be implicated in the genesis of effort hyperventilation during mild supine exercise on the catheter table.
