Abstract
Rabies street virus injd. peripherally in mice and guinea pigs remained viable in the muscle up to 4 days in normal animals but invaded the nervous system within 1-2 days. In animals receiving rabies vaccine the street virus remained viable in the muscle as in the controls but did not invade the nervous system. Muscle tissue of normal rabbits neutralized as much virus as that of vaccinated rabbits but the latter also neutralized virus with nervous tissue. There was no apparent relationship between the degree of actual immunity and the titer of serum antibodies.
