Spectrum of Carbon Monoxide-Oxygen Explosion. I. The Visible Spectrum

Abstract
The effect of composition on the spectrum of the explosion of pure, dry CO and oxygen has been studied. In addition to the expected continuum with a superposed banded emission, a banded absorption has been observed. The absorber is probably the a(3Πr) state of CO. The possibility that this excited state of CO is important in the production of the continuum is discussed.
