Solitary Nevus Lipomatosus Cutaneus Superficialis of Scalp

Abstract

A case of solitary nevus lipomatosus cutaneus superficialis of the scalp in a young man is presented. The histogenesis of ectopic adipose tissue in the dermis and the rationale for considering this an anomaly of embryological development are noted. The term solitary nevus lipomatosus cutaeus superficialis is proposed for the solitary nodular form without any site of predilection. It is suggested that perhaps the solitary form in the gluteal region be considered a form fruste of Hoffmann-Zurhelle.
