Abstract
Maize is an example of extreme moneciousness, normally having the terminal shoot passing into the secondary [male] state and the lateral branches into the secondary [female] state. Of corn planted on November 1, with proper greenhouse temp., moisture, and manure, all plants expressed femaleness in the tassels to a greater or less degree, with silks and normal grains because of the short daylight period. In extreme cases fairly perfect ears were developed. The sex reversal in the tassel and down the stem showed a gradation series from extreme femaleness to the normal monecious condition with only maleness expressed in the tassel. With lengthening daylight period, the % of sex-reversal became progressively less until March 15 when a plot of 25 individuals showed but 1 reversed tassel. The summer controls showed no sex reversal. The part of the main stem which is thrown into the [female] state was often extremely flexuous.
