Cholelithiasis in infants: association with total parenteral nutrition and furosemide.

Abstract
Three premature infants with cholelithiasis are reported. All had respiratory distress syndrome complicated by bronchopulmonary dysplasia and were treated with assisted ventilation, total parenteral nutrition and furosemide. The association of cholelithiasis with the administration of total parenteral nutrition and furosemide in infants is discussed. Hypotheses are presented, and the literature is reviewed.
