Abstract
This paper is a tutorial and review paper on the subject of mode-locking of lasers. It is intended as an introduction to the subject for the general reader as well as an up-to-date overview for specialists in the field. Emphasis has been placed on giving physical understanding of the phenomena and processes involved, rather than on providing details of specific theories and devices. Keywords
