Abstract
A screening survey on 21 plant species was performed to search for ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs). Seven plants were found to contain inhibitory activity on protein synthesis carried out by cell-free protein synthesis systems derived from rat liver, wheat germ and Vicia sativa L. germ. The active inhibitory principles fulfil major requirements to be classified as type 1 RIP.Keywords
