Some Pharmacological Observations on Tranylcypromine (SKF trans-385); A Potent Inhibitor of Monoamine Oxidase.

Abstract
Treatment of rabbits with tranylcypromine (trans 2-phenylcyclopropylamine hydrochloride) followed by the injection of reserpine produces central nervous system stimulation and a marked rise in rectal temperature. This effect of tranylcypromine is assumed to reflect the activity of the agent as an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase. In addition, tranylcypromine produces an analeptic effect in rabbits deeply sedated with reserpine. The analeptic effect of tranylcypromine is of long duration and is produced in doses which do not elicit overt signs of central nervous system stimulation.
