Adaptation of ECHO Viruses in HeLa Cells; Their Use in Complement Fixation.

Abstract
Twelve of 13 original echo viruses were adapted to HeLa cells in tissue cultures. The adapted viruses produced discrete, recognizable cytopathogenic changes. Infected fluids at the 5th passage level provided specific, reliable antigens for use in the complement-fixation (CF) test with hyperimmune monkey antisera. CF results correlate with neutralization teats in defining specific and reciprocal relationships among echo viruses.
