Heavy-Ion Reactions as a Technique for Direct Mass Measurements of UnknownZ>NNuclei

Abstract
The reactions Ca40(C12,t)Mn49 and Ca40(C12, He3)Cr49 have been observed with ground-state cross sections of the order of 1 μb/sr. The results for Mn49 are consistent with its predicted mass excess of -37.72 ± 0.08 MeV.
