Abstract
The preparation of W-phenylalkyldimethylamines and their derivatives is of particular interest since they have a broad field of application e. g as catalysts, corrosion inhibitors, epoxy hardeners and vulcanizing agents. Several different ways of synthesis have been reported in the literature1-14, mostly starting from the corresponding halides or aldehydes. In this paper a new catalytic method of synthesis starting from corresponding alcohols is described. The investigated catalytic amination can be carried out in a simple one step procedure and takes place accoring to the following overall reaction scheme Of all catalyst types tested copper oxide and copper oxide/chromium oxide on an acidic support (e. g. silica or γ-alumina) showed the best selectivity and activity
