Abstract
A study of the growth and development of 69 children with a birth weight of 3 lb. or less indicated that the prognosis for the very small premature is worse than that reported by others. Two-thirds of the children studied manifested physical, mental or emotional handicap in later infancy and childhood. It is suggested that as the survival rate of very small prematures improves an increasing proportion of damaged infants will survive. Keywords
