Abstract
Measurement of digital joint circumference by using a plastic spring gauge has been carefully evaluated in rheumatoid patients. There is very small Ultra-observer but large inter-observer variation. A diurnal change in joint size could not be confirmed. Provided that joints affected by soft tissue swelling are used, the measure is a useful Index of the effect of anti-inflammatory drugs.
