Abstract
The Raman spectrum of liquid CF3CN has been obtained at −100°C. The infrared spectrum of the gas at room temperature has been obtained from 2 to 38μ. The analysis of these data yield the fundamentals, which are used to interpret the overtone and combination bands. A qualitative discussion of the character of the vibrations, which is based upon comparison with other molecules of the CF3X type, is given in terms of orthogonal characteristic vibrations. The results of a normal coordinate analysis are included. Keywords
