Bond strength in steel-fIbre-reinforced concrete

Abstract
Synopsis The effects of various chemical and physical treatments of the wire surface upon the bond between a wire and a cement or mortar matrix have been measured by means of a simple pull-out test. Galvanizing produces some improvement in bond, but the best results were obtained from a wire with a looped end and an indented wire. In these two cases, failure occurred outside the specimen at loads approximating to the ultimate tensile strength of the wire. Limited results on the effects of age, method of curing, and the application of pressure during casting are also given.
