Electronic Raman Effect. VI. Enhancement of the Intensity of Electronic Raman Transitions in Special Cases

Abstract
Crystal fields, with no center of inversion, mix configurations of different parity into an eigenfunction of a rare earth ion in a crystal. Also, different J values are mixed. It is shown that configuration mixing can be detected in the resonance electronic Raman effect, whereas J mixing allows the occurrence of the irreducible tensor component α00 . Experimental examples are given.
