The Determination of Concentrations in the Ultracentrifugation of Two-Component Systems

Abstract
An analysis of mass distribution in the ultracentrifugation of mixtures of two sedimentable components has been made. This treatment predicts the magnitude of the slow component concentration in the region between the slow and fast boundaries as well as the change in this concentration during the run. The theory has been applied to a series of mixtures and is in agreement with the experimental data. The existence of convection during the ultracentrifugation of mixtures is briefly discussed as well as the application of the theory to a determination of concentrations in unknown systems.
