Fruiting-bodies of Schizophyllum commune can be consistently obtained by culturing the mycelium in test tubes filled with vermiculite and a nutrient mixture. Initial growth is allowed to take place while the test tubes are capped and in a vertical position. Later the tubes are uncapped and placed horizontally in the holes of moist, porous, building tiles.
