Abstract
Theoretical equations are derived on the longitudinal Faraday and Kerr effects in gyroelectric thin films bounded by a nonmagnetic medium on each side under the first order approximation where a gyoelectric constant Q is much smaller than unity. Multiple inner reflections are considered. Analytical solutions for the coefficients of these effects are also obtained for films satisfying the condition, |(πN d Q)/λ0|N, d are the complex index of refraction and thickness of the film, λ0 the wavelength of light in vacuum. The coefficients consist of two terms, the one stemming from the propagation of wave within the film, and the other, the boundary effect in the film. Keywords
