PROLIFERATION OF RABBIT PERITONEAL HISTIOCYTES AS REVEALED BY AUTORADIOGRAPHY WITH TRITIATED THYMIDINE

Abstract
Tritium-labeled thymidine was used to label nuclei of rabbit peritoneal histiocytes in vivo and in vitro. After a lag period of 48 hours, cells maintained in vitro started to incorporate the tracers, and ultimately most of them were labeled. Injection of the tracer into the peritoneal cavity after the injection of an irritant resulted in the appearance of a high percentage of labeled cells; suggesting proliferation in the cavity.
