On Immunologically Induced Gastric Atrophy in Dogs

Abstract
Gastric atrophy was induced in 4 dogs by repeated intradermal or/and intramuscular injections of lyophilized, autologous gastric Juice obtained after histamine stimulation. In 1 dog gastric atrophy developed 1 mo. after a single intradermal injection of homogenized autologous gastric mucosa. Both antigens were administered with complete Freund'' s adjuvant. Controls were 3 non-immunized dogs. Besides antibody-mediated reactions, a cell-mediated immunological mechanism with manifestations of delayed hypersensitivity may be involved in the development of immunological gastritis.
