CORTIN, VITAL HORMONE OF THE ADRENAL CORTEX*

Abstract

A method is given for the preparation of an extract of the adrenal cortex (cortin) of any desired concn. This extract administered twice daily to cats adrenalectomized in either one or two operations enabled the cats to live in normal health indefinitely. They gained weight and had high resistance to infection. Cats . adrenalectomized and deprived of extract to the point of prostration were revived quickly by its administration. Young adrenalectomized rats receiving cortin grew. Cortiu lowered the high blood urea of adrenal insufficiency.
