Abstract
Growth in the eastern and western subspecies of this percoid fish is described and compared in a series of von Bertalanffy curves. While growth in the eastern subspecies is uniform throughout the area of its distribution, that in the western subspecies, with a much wider area of distribution, shows variation. Growth in the latter decreases with increasing distance from its spawning grounds in Western Australia, until at the eastern end of its range it is similar to that of the eastern subspecies inhabiting the same waters.
