Abstract
The apparent discrepancies of nitric oxide formation rates in fuel-rich flames are reviewed in the light of recently published work. The Zeldovich mechanism alone appears to be insufficient to account for observed behaviour under conditions in which hydrocarbon species are present, and a mechanism involving such species seems plausible. Experimental results in support of this conclusion are presented in a form suitable for kinetic analysis. Keywords
