Abstract
The Beacon Group has not been adequately defined. Proposed standard sections of divisions of the Group are described from Mount Bastion and the Fortresses in the Victoria Valley region. There the Beacon Group is 4,500 ft thick and is divided into the basal Webb Sandstone, the Fortress Sandstone, and the Mount Bastion Coal Measures. The Mount Bastion Coal Measures are dated by plant microfossils as midPermian, and contain thin seams of anthracite with 30% ash. Details of supplementary sections in the same area are given in an appendix. Keywords
