A Tubular Coprophagy-Preventing Cage for the Rat

Abstract
Tubular-type cages designed to prevent coprophagy in the rat are described. The cages are made with half-inch wire mesh and are about 7 to 12 inches square, with an overhang for the feed cup. The rats seem to be comfortable in these cages, eat well and grow satisfactorily (5.7 gm/day). The cages are completely effective in preventing coprophagy by both male and female rats and permit simple measurement of the amount of coprophagy practiced by rats housed in regular cages.
