Study ofK−p→Σππin the Region of theΛ(1520)

Abstract
The reactions KpΣ+ππ0, Σπ+π0, and Σ0π+π have been analyzed in the region of the Λ(1520). The data are consistent with the dominance of the reaction sequence KpΛ(1520)Σ(1385)πΣππ. The same sequence of resonance production and decay has been previously found to lead to the Λππ final state. Fits to the cross sections yield branching fractions for Λ(1520)Σ+ππ0, Σπ+π0, and Σ0π+π of 0.0034 ± 0.0004, 0.0024 ± 0.0003, and 0.0027 ± 0.0003, respectively. A comparison of the Σππ and Λππ cross sections yields a branching ratio Γ[Σ(1385)Σπ]Γ[Σ(1385)Λπ]=0.18±0.04.
