Spontaneous Occlusion of the Middle Cerebral Artsery

Abstract
Nine cases of occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, diagnosed by means of angio-graphy, are reported. In only one instance was the lesion verified anatomically. A focal eeg abnormality was commonly observed and probably warrants inclusion as an additional feature of the syndrome. It is suggested that occlusion of a major artery is the responsible factor whenever increased intracranial pressure develops in conjunction with cerebrovascular disease. Probably the collateral circulation is defective in such cases so that extensive infarction results.
