Abstract
Public watermarks allow embedded signals to be extractedfrom audio and video content for a variety ofpurposes. One application is for copyright control,where it is envisaged that digital video recorders willnot permit the recording of content that is watermarkedas "never copy". In such a scenario, it is importantthat the watermark survive both normal signal transformationsand attempts to remove the watermark sothat an illegal copy can be made.
