Abstract
Differential cross sections for proton inelastic scattering to the first excited (2+) states of , , , , and are reported for bombarding energies near 10 MeV. Elastic- and inelastic-scattering angular distribution data were analyzed by a recently reported generalization of the optical model in which states of quadrupole collective motion strongly coupled to the nuclear ground state are considered. The results of this analysis show a dependence of the real nuclear potential depth on the nuclear symmetry parameter ; the symmetry term for the real potential was found to be MeV.
