Abstract
Type distribution of 664 cultures of Shigella or closely allied enteric bacilli isolated mainly from American military personnel in India and Burma is presented. Further biochemical and serological studies in this country of 40 cultures, which were inagglutinable in available Shigella antiserums upon isolation but possessed morphological and biochemical characteristics of this genus are discussed. Four of these cultures were found to comprise two previously undescribed sero-types, and their characteristics are described.
