An infrared transmission cell for ultra-thin liquid films

Abstract
This note describes the design and use of an ultra-thin cell for the quantitative measurement of infrared absorption bands of strongly absorbing liquids or solutions by transmission. From these measurements the optical constants of the absorbing material can be evaluated. The technique is demonstrated by a comparison with the optical constant data reported in the literature for the 1527 cm−1 band of hexafluorobenzene as measured by attenuated total reflection.
